Matheus Cunha and Nelson Semedo react after confirmed Wolves departure

Matheus Cunha and Nelson Semedo have both responded after a former teammate confirmed his departure from Wolves.

Back in December, Semedo had replaced Mario Lemina as the club’s captain, after the latter was involved in an on-field scuffle with with West Ham attacker Jarrod Bowen.

That appeared to be the catalyst for the 31-year-old’s exit from Molineux after he was also left out of the side under new manager Vitor Pereira when making clear his desire to leave.

A move away from Wolves has since been secured for Lemina, and despite how things ended, his now former teammates still want things to work out for him at his new club.

Wolves duo respond as Mario Lemina bids goodbye

On Wednesday (5 February), the midfielder joined Turkish league leaders Galatasaray for a fee of £2million.

That brought an end to a two-year spell with Wolves, having joined from Nice back in the 2023 January transfer window.

After the midfielder took to Instagram to reflect on his departure from the club, Semedo and Cunha were among those to respond.

Replying to the midfielder’s message, Semedo wrote: “All the best my guy”. Cunha meanwhile, responded by writing “Enjoy bro, you deserve it.”

Football Insider Verdict

In some ways it made sense for the Molineux club to sanction the departure of Lemina to Galatasaray at this point.

Given the controversy that has surrounded him recently, not using him on the pitch means there is a risk his situation would have become a distraction to Wolves, as they aim to avoid relegation.

Even so it seems he will still be missed by his teammates given the reaction to his exit they have posted here.

Indeed, while Lemina has departed, the fact Cunha will be staying after signing a new contract will be a big boost to Wolves considering how important he has been already in their relegation battle.
