Matheus Cunha reacts excitedly as Man United close another signing

Man United players were quick to react after a fresh update in the club’s pursuit of Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo had an outstanding Premier League campaign last season, scoring 20 goals for Brentford and emerging as one of the division’s standout performers.

However, his impressive form may now see him leave the Bees, with the Mbeumo having made it clear he’s keen on a move to Manchester United.

Football Insider reported that Newcastle were prepared to meet Brentford’s asking price for Mbeumo earlier in the window, but the Cameroon international had his heart set on a switch to Old Trafford.

Despite that preference, talks between United and Brentford had stalled in recent weeks, largely due to the club’s inability to move on players such as Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho — both of whom remain on the books amid uncertainty over their futures.

Now, a fresh breakthrough in negotiations appears to have reignited excitement among the squad, with several players reacting to the development as United edge closer to securing one of their key attacking targets this summer.

Man United agree £70m deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo

According to Fabrizio Romano, Man United have agreed a £70m deal to sign Mbeumo and that the contract was agreed “weeks ago” as he had made it clear his only intention was to join the Red Devils.

The update sparked a wave of excitement among United players, with fellow summer signing Matheus Cunha liking the post, joined by teammate and compatriot Andre Onana.

Fans may have also quick to notice that Mbeumo himself liked the announcement, dropping yet another hint that a move is all but complete.

Mbeumo will become United’s second major attacking addition of the summer, following Cunha’s arrival from Wolves after his 15-goal Premier League season.

Improving the attack has been a key focus for United since Ruben Amorim’s appointment, with the side ending last season as the fifth-lowest scorers in the league.

Following Rasmus Hojlund’s underwhelming campaign at Man United as the main striker, the additions of two proven forwards with double-digit goal returns should come as a major boost heading into the new campaign.

Man United step up goalkeeper search after Andre Onana injury

While the attack is being rebuilt, Man United are also turning their attention to the goalkeeper position.

Football Insider report that Man United are ready to accelerate their pursuit of Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor, with Aston Villa also showing interest.

With Onana picking up an injury during pre-season, it has raised concerns over depth in the position and increasing the urgency to bring in a new shot-stopper.

The Brazilian is considered a top target for United, and Onana’s setback may fast-track talks as the club look to solidify their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.
