Matheus Cunha reacts to Bruno Fernandes announcement at Man United

Matheus Cunha reacted to an announcement from Man United in regards to teammate and captain Bruno Fernandes.

Despite cycling through managers in recent seasons, including Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim last season, the Red Devils captain’s performances have remained at a stunning level.

Often playing in a deeper role, the Portugal international registered 19 goals and 18 assists in all competitions last season.

Football Insider revealed Al Hilal were prepared to offer £80million for Fernandes, but the 30-year-old chose instead to remain with his current club.

Having finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham last season, the Red Devils now look keen to make the most of their captain rejecting the opportunity to leave the club by strengthening around him.

United have signed Cunha from Wolves, and are looking to add Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo to their ranks.

Bruno Fernandes nominated for PFA Players’ Player of the Year

United shared an image of their captain in the new kit for next season on Instagram with the caption: “Bruno Fernandes has been nominated for The PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.”

The post was liked by the club’s captain who has been nominated for the award alongside Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Newcastle star Alexander Isak.

Man United in strong position to make Champions League push

Football Insider Verdict

Whisper it quietly, but United are building a seriously good team this summer and could make a push for Champions League football next season.

It might seem like a wild statement, but there are several factors that are playing into the Red Devils’ hands this coming campaign.

Having missed out on a place in UEFA’s most prestigious competition last season, thanks to their Europa League final loss, United will be free from the extra games that come with playing on the continent next year.

Whilst their rivals toil away in Europe, the Red Devils will have the ability to solely focus on their position domestically, and that will happen after a full pre-season learning Amorim’s tactical system.

Football finance expert Dan Plumley told Football Insider that United are in a strong PSR position this summer and the club have already shown their intent to make the most of that with the deals done for Cunha and Mbeumo so far.
