Matheus Cunha’s response to Wolves contract offer revealed – Insider

Matheus Cunha is set to turn down offers of a new contract from Wolves amid growing interest from top clubs ahead of the transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the forward is keen to explore his options away from Molineux.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 3 December that the Midlands outfit are keen to extend the forward’s contract after his excellent start to the season.

Cunha, 25, has scored seven goals and picked up three assists in the Premier League so far this season despite Wolves’ struggles.

Gary O’Neil’s side have won just two of their 15 games this term, drawing three and losing ten, and sit second-bottom of the league as a result.

The Brazilian’s displays in spite of his team’s performances have attracted interest from multiple sides ahead of the January transfer window.

However, Wolves are reluctant to let him leave mid-way through their battle against relegation, and a deal is thought to be more likely to take place in the summer.

Brown previously told Football Insider in October that rival Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Cunha’s situation and plan to swoop if Wolves suffer relegation.

Matheus Cunha to turn down Wolves offer amid new interest

Football Insider revealed on 26 November that Man United are plotting a move to sign Cunha ahead of next summer’s transfer window as scouts have been tracking him closely.

Brown, who spent over a decade at United during their most successful period and has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment, insisted that he will not commit to Wolves while there is interest in his signature from elsewhere.

He’s definitely capable of stepping up from where he is,” he told Football Insider.

“I’m not surprised Wolves seem to be doing everything they can to keep him there.

“But if they can’t, they’re likely to demand a big fee for him so they can at least make some money.

“From what I’ve heard, it doesn’t look like he’s going to sign a contract there at the moment.

“They’re in a relegation battle so he won’t want to make a commitment at this stage, especially when you consider there are top teams interested in signing him.

“He’s been performing well in spite of his team’s results, and that’s always a good sign in terms of his ability to make the step up, and it’ll do no harm to the interest in him.

“I would be surprised if he didn’t turn down any new contracts from Wolves to keep his options open.”

In other news, Gary O’Neil ‘won’t be in charge for the next Wolves game’.
