Mathys Tel already sweating over his Tottenham future as Mohammed Kudus return date emerges

Mathys Tel would have secretly been rubbing his hands together after Wilson Odobert suffered a season-ending injury at Tottenham.

The French youth international has started just six Premier League games this season, accumulating 626 minutes in the division, with several of his teammates ahead of him in the pecking order.

Despite Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Mohammed Kudus all being confined to the treatment room, Tel has failed to take advantage of Spurs’ options in the final third.

Of course, with the Lilywhites parting ways with Thomas Frank, there could be relief for the 20-year-old winger, but he is quickly running out of opportunities in North London.

Mohammed Kudus could return after the next international break

Although Kulusevski could soon return to the pitch, Maddison is much further behind, with his return date likely to be ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Kudus, however, could now return after the March international break, The Sun understands (13 February), meaning that the Ghana international could only miss the next five Premier League matches.

Tottenham are also likely to have two Champions League fixtures before the March international break, but dates have not yet been confirmed for the round of 16.

He has been sidelined since 4 January, when he managed just 19 minutes against Sunderland before trudging down the tunnel, leaving supporters to fear the absolute worst for his season.

The supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be absolutely buzzing that Kudus could soon be in action, but it is only likely to be bad news for Tel, who is already struggling for game time.

Mathys Tel is running out of time to prove himself at Tottenham

Odobert’s injury would have presented Tel with the perfect opportunity to gain some valuable minutes on the pitch, while also proving to the next manager that he can help Spurs in the final third.

With just three goals this season, he has convinced very few fans since his move from Bayern Munich, and with Kudus on the mend, his spot in the starting lineup is at stake.

This could already have serious complications for the youngster’s future in North London. Many fans are fed up with the winger already and are ready to trade him for someone much more talented.

It has been an extremely difficult season for everyone involved at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but that would have been the ideal time for Tel to stand up and be counted alongside the most experienced.
