Matt O’Riley and Lewis Dunk react to Jack Hinshelwood after wild Brighton scenes

Jack Hinshelwood’s heroic status carried over to social media after scoring a dramatic winner for Brighton against Liverpool.

Arne Slot‘s side raced into the lead through Harvey Elliott, though Yasin Ayari hit back before Dominik Szoboszlai sent a cross-turn-shot flying past Bart Verbruggen just before half-time.

The Reds looked in control heading into the break, but with Fabian Hurzeler’s impact substitutes taking full effect in the second half, Kaoru Mitoma and Hinshelwood got the party started at the Amex Stadium.

The 20-year-old, who scored the all-important goal five minutes from time, not only celebrated all three points but also put the ball under his shirt to signify he and his partner are expecting a child.

Taking to Instagram (20 May), Hinshelwood wrote: “Special night. Proud of you mate!” tagging his cousin, Harry Howell, now the Seagulls’ youngest-ever Premier League debutant.

As well as Newcastle United‘s Lewis Hall and West Ham’s Ollie Scarles, Brighton stars Joel Veltman, Matt O’Riley, Lewis Dunk, and Adam Webster all liked the post after the scenes at the Amex Stadium.

Fabian Hurzeler to keep pushing at the Amex Stadium

Football Insider verdict

Hurzeler was under pressure after clashing with Brighton fans just last month, but with four games without a defeat now, the tide is turning for the German on the south coast.

The Seagulls have moved up to eighth in the Premier League table, leaving them with an outside chance of securing European football with just one match of the season remaining.

With Carlos Baleba of interest to Liverpool this summer, Mick Brown told Football Insider, Hurzeler will hope to keep most of the current squad together for next season, but that might not be possible.

Joao Pedro, Verbruggen, Tariq Lamptey, and Mitoma have all been tipped for moves elsewhere, but with the promise shown this season, there are few reasons why other projects should distract them.

The Seagulls finished in the second half of the table last season, to now nearly battling for a spot in Europe, so it is exciting to think what the manager can achieve with another transfer window under his belt.
