Matt Targett: Newcastle tipped to announce £15m capture on ‘day one of transfer window’
Newcastle United will sign Matt Targett on the first day of the summer transfer window.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after it was claimed a fee has already been agreed for the left-back.
On Tuesday (8 March), The Chronicle reported Newcastle and Aston Villa have agreed a £15million fee for Targett.
The 26-year-old joined the Magpies on loan in January and has made four appearances in the Premier League so far.
He has only missed one game as he was unavailable for the Toon’s clash against parent club Villa.
Kenny claims the deal will happen as it makes sense for everyone involved.
“If all of that is correct it will get done on day one of the window,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He’s started well in Newcastle and £15million is nothing these days.
“He’s played well over 100 Premier League games and he’s been solid for Newcastle.
“He is miles better than what they had. I think it’s a no brainer for Newcastle.
“I imagine he will want to join permanently as well, considering he’s been replaced by Digne at Villa.
“So that’s a deal that works for everyone. I’m sure that will happen.”

Villa signed Lucas Digne from Everton in January and he made six consecutive starts after his arrival.
However, he missed Saturday’s (5 March) win over Southampton.
