Matty Cash tipped to accept bumper offer after Aston Villa reveal – former manager
Alex McLeish has tipped Matty Cash to snub a move to Atletico Madrid and stay at Aston Villa this summer.
The former Villa boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Villans are showing enough “ambition” to keep the 24-year-old in the Midlands.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (21 March), Villa are preparing to offer Cash a big-money contract to ward off interest from his suitors.
A Spanish source told this site Atletico are big admirers and have been conducting regular scouting missions with a view to a summer move.
However, McLeish suggested Cash would be keen to commit his future to Steven Gerrard’s men.
“He has been a real find for Villa, no doubt about it,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“I’m sure the ambition that Villa have shown over the last couple of years, they have spent a lot of money, they gave Dean Smith a lot of money, they’re going to bankroll Steven Gerrard.
“There’s no way they want to lose their young bucks who have come through the ranks. I know Matty Cash came from another club.
“They have absolutely cemented their time and their future in the Premier League.
“I wouldn’t think Cash would want to leave. It’s quite glamorous going abroad and playing but it also has its pitfalls. Do you settle in?
“I know it’s very akin to the Trippier thing, although Trippier went at a later age. Cash, I’m sure he would be very happy to stay at Villa.”

Cash has played 59 times for Villa to date.
His current contract runs until the summer of 2025.
