Mauricio Pochettino ‘lit up when Tottenham were mentioned’ amid ‘huge’ claim – Insider

Tottenham will try and appoint Mauricio Pochettino if Antonio Conte walks away from the club in the summer.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Last Wednesday (9 March) PSG crashed out of the Champions League despite winning their first leg clash against Real Madrid.

The result cast fresh doubt on Pochettino’s future with PSG’s wait for an elusive Champions League trophy set to continue for at least another year.

Conte’s future is also uncertain as he has continuously refused to confirm that he will be at Spurs next season.

Wenham insists Pochettino’s return will be on the cards if Conte leaves in the summer.

“Last week we saw PSG’s collapse in the Champions League,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He was asked about Tottenham after the game and his face lit up when we were mentioned.

“I just personally feel Tottenham have to make a decision in the summer.

“They either have to back Conte and give him everything he wants.

“If they aren’t going to do that, if they’re going to be half-hearted with him then it would be better to let him leave.

“At that point, the potential of Poch coming back would be there again, he’s still a hugely popular figure here.

“Conte needs a club who will match his ambition. I absolutely want him to be given the summer to recruit but there are doubts over whether that will happen.

“He needs the players he wants at the club. If he wants four or five players, the bare minimum to get him is those four players.

“I really want him to feel back. But, if that isn’t going to happen, if we can’t give him that, then maybe Poch’s return will be talked about again.”
