Maxwel Cornet arrival ‘could spell the end’ for West Ham star after journalist’s ‘surprising’ update – pundit

Paul Robinson is “surprised” West Ham would be willing to listen to offers for Said Benrahma this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one fears David Moyes does not have a lot of strength in depth at the London Stadium.

According to Fabrizio Romano (7 August), the Hammers are prepared to sell Benrahma, 27, this month.

West Ham

The attacking midfielder has four years remaining on his current contract.

On Friday (5 August), the Irons announced the signing of winger Maxwel Cornet from Burnley for an undisclosed fee.

Robinson suggested Cornet’s arrival has paved the way for Benrahma to exit.

“I am surprised to hear that they are willing to let him go,” he told Football Insider.

“It is not as if Moyes is blessed with a huge squad. They do not have a lot of depth.

“I know Maxwel Cornet has come in but I would have thought they would want more bodies through the door before selling a player like him.

“Cornet might be the replacement, if you like. He can play on that left-hand side which would allow [Pablo] Fornals to play more centrally.

“Cornet gives them an excellent option. He played well in a Burnley team that did not play to his strengths. They struggled and got relegated.

West Ham

“He has so much more to offer. His pace, power and ability in front of goal will be a real asset to West Ham.

“His arrival could be the end for Benrahma.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has saluted West Ham as a ‘very lucrative’ new deal is announced.
