McAvennie can’t believe Reo Hatate as Celtic footage analysed

Frank McAvennie has claimed Reo Hatate has been the “best signing” Ange Postecoglou has made for Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker hailed Hatate’s recent performances, including his “brilliant” goal against Motherwell on Wednesday (19 October).

As shown on Premier Sports (19 October), the 24-year-old helped the Celts to a 4-0 victory over Motherwell in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final with a skilful goal assisted by Liel Abada.

It was also Hatate’s first goal of the 2022-23 season.

The Japan international was one of Postecoglou’s earliest signings when he joined the Parkhead club in January alongside Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi.

McAvennie insisted Hatate is the Green and Whites’ best signing since Postecoglou’s arrival.

I think he is the best of the bunch,” he told Football Insider.

I think he is the best signing we have made. I think he is tremendous.

He was maybe trying a bit too hard at the start. He missed a few chances and was a bit hard on himself. That is the time when you need to keep it simple.

Now he is spraying the ball all over the place. The way he took his goal against Motherwell was nothing short of brilliance.

The midfielder has made 12 appearances for Celtic across all competitions this season.

In those outings he has scored one goal and provided two assists.

Since joining the Glasgow club Hatate has made 33 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
