McAvennie can’t believe what Rogic did after Celtic wonder goal

Frank McAvennie fears “something is not right” with Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic after the win against St Mirren.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Parkhead legend can’t believe the 28-year-old’s “muted” celebration after his “great goal” at St Mirren Park.

Rogic scored the opener in a 4-0 win over Jim Goodwin’s Saints on Wednesday night, as the Hoops closed the gap on league-leaders Rangers to 18 points.

The Australia international has featured 23 times for Neil Lennon’s side this season, despite having appeared nailed on to leave the club last summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, Lennon said Rogic was the best player on the pitch.

McAvennie echoed Lennon’s praise, and hailed the “wonderful” attacking midfielder for his performance.

“A great goal and that is what Rogic is all about.” he told Football Insider.

“But something is not right there, when he scored the goal there was no celebrations and for a goal like that you expect a celebration. It was very muted.

“I really think he is a wonderful talent but it is one of them.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lennon said: “We weren’t great first half, unforced errors on the ball, scored a great goal from the best player on the pitch in Tom Rogic.

“I had a few words with them at half-time and second half they were unbelievable, and we could have won the game by a lot more when you think of the chances we created.”
