McAvennie claims Edouard will start Celtic v Midtjylland clash after source's update

Frank McAvennie claims Ange Postecoglou will start wantaway striker Odsonne Edouard when Celtic face FC Midtjylland next week.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, doesn’t see why the Frenchman should miss the game.

Edouard, 23, scored in Celtic’s first pre-season game last week, a 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Edouard has been heavily linked with a move away from Celtic this summer and has drawn interest from West Ham.

On 19th June, Football Insider revealed West Ham are weighing up whether to reignite their interest in Edouard.

The player’s latest situation is that he is still hankering after a move, with a source telling Football Insider that Edouard has told friends he is expected to leave Parkhead by the end of this summer window.

Celtic’s Champions League qualifier is next Tuesday and McAvennie insists Edouard will start.

“I think he has to start,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s not going to go between now and then, he will be here.

“I don’t know what his mentality is, but for me, I want to play every game.

“Whether Celtic is his club or not in the future, he should want to play.

“If I was him, I’d want to get my mates into the next round. Even if I’m not there to see it.

“That should be his attitude and the attitude of the rest of the lads.

“He’s our player and one of the better ones, I think Postecoglou will start him.”

Edouard scored 18 goals in 31 league games last season.

He joined the Hoops in 2018 after a successful loan spell the previous season.

In other news, Ange Postecoglou could pull plug on senior player’s exit, claims ex-manager.
