McAvennie hails ‘wonderful’ Rogic after latest Celtic sighting

Frank McAvennie was surprised to see Tom Rogic starting two games in four days for Celtic after being heavily involved for Australia during the international break.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has been blown away by the midfielder’s resurgence.

Rogic, 28, started against Motherwell on Saturday and was also in from the off against Ferencvaros tonight.

The Australian international has worked his way back into the fold at Parkhead after struggling for game time under Neil Lennon last season.

He has made 19 appearances this season after making 31 across the whole of 2020-21.

McAvennie is thrilled Rogic has returned and claims he will only get better as he regains his full fitness.

“I didn’t think he would be playing,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s not been that long since he was in Asia with Australia. But it’s not exactly like they travel cattle class on the plane.

“They will have been comfortable. I’m delighted for him because the fitter he gets, the better he is.

“I have said many times about how good Rogic is on his day. I never understood why he wasn’t played more last season.

“He’s from the same neck of the woods as Ange so maybe they understand each other better.

“I just want to see as much of him as possible, he’s a wonderful player.”

Rogic joined Celtic in 2013 and has made 228 appearances for the club.

He has also scored 41 goals during his time in Scotland.
