McAvennie hits out at ‘baffling’ Celtic fan decision

Frank McAvennie has been left fuming after Hearts slashed the allocation for the travelling Celtic fans ahead of tonight’s clash at Tynecastle.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has been left baffled but the Edinburgh club’s decision.

On 12 January, Record Sport reported Celtic have only been handed 1289 tickets for tonight’s fixture.

For context, more than 3500 away fans were allowed into Tynecastle for the last meeting between the two sides.

This came in December 2019 as Ryan Christie and Olivier Ntcham scored in that midweek victory.

McAvennie has been left fuming with Hearts’ actions and can’t understand why the club would want games played in front of a smaller capacity crowd.

“I don’t get this thing with the supporters,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Why have they cut the allocation? Celtic fans will buy up any tickets that are left anyway.

“Why do Hearts not want to make money? This is becoming a thing up here and I don’t like it.

“It’s baffling, it really is. Football without fans is nothing. Celtic and Rangers are doing it all the time as well.

“There has been so much talk about away fans being allowed for whichever Old Firm game. Give it a rest.

“It just makes so sense to me, do Hearts think they are going to get an advantage?

“I think it will fire us up if anything.

Whatever the reason for this, it doesn’t happen in the Premier League and it needs to stop.”
