McAvennie: ‘I got slaughtered’ for my Ryan Jack claim but now I’ve been proved right after expert’s ‘massive’ Rangers update

Frank McAvennie has tipped Ryan Jack to continue his “amazing” progression as he returns to the Rangers first team.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists Jack is “the complete midfielder”,

Jack, 29. hasn’t kicked a ball since February after picking up a calf problem.

Rangers

As quoted by the Scottish Sun on 22 October, manager Steven Gerrard confirmed that the midfielder was “back with the team in training”.

Football Insider pundit and injury expert Ben Dinnery has since admitted he expects Jack is “on the cusp” of a return to the first team.

McAvennie has been blown away by Jack’s development over the last few years and insists his return is “massive” for Rangers.

“Jack’s return is massive for Rangers,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I got slaughtered for this but I was one of the people who said it was too early for him to be in the Scotland squad.

“Then they held off and he got called up later and looked very good.

“I’ve been amazed by his progression. He can tackle, pass, dictate the game.

“He’s a complete midfielder, that’s why he’s so valuable to Rangers.

“Slowly but surely he is become key. I imagine it helps that he works with Davis every day.

“He also has Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister to learn from.

“With Jack, I can’t see him doing anything other than continuing to rise.”

Jack has made 130 appearances for Rangers and played a pivotal role in last season’s title win.

The Gers are next in action against Motherwell on Sunday.

In other news, Rangers have been tipped to “strike a deal” that will damage Celtic.
