McAvennie issues emphatic Erling Haaland verdict after what he’s seen at Man City
Frank McAvennie has heaped praise on Man City striker Erling Haaland following his home debut.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham and Celtic star said Haaland is the only player who is nailed to be a starter at City this season.
The 22-year-old started for the Sky Blues in their game against newly promoted Bournemouth on Saturday (13 August).
He provided an assist for the first goal in his side’s 4-0 win.
The centre-forward was replaced by fellow new signing Julian Alvarez for the final 20 minutes of the Premier League clash at the Etihad.
As quoted by the Daily Mail (14 August), Pep Guardiola praised the Norwegian’s efforts against Bournemouth’s high back line.
The Cityzens boss added that with Haaland’s quality they will be able to create chances.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Charlotte Cohen for his assessment of Haaland’s start, McAvennie said: “There is only one player for me that is going to be in the starting lineup every week and that is Haaland.
“He is the only certainty this year. They’re a shoe in to win the league anyway.
“If I was to haver a bet this year I would back them to win the Champions League. With Haaland’s goals and his movement. He’s shown already how good his movement is, how quick and intelligent he is.
“Pep will change the team as he sees fit.“
