McAvennie lambasts Michael Beale ‘song’ after Rangers source’s update

Rangers should not appoint Michael Beale as their new manager.

That’s according to former Celtic hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ongoing hunt for a new manager at Ibrox.

The Glasgow giants are close to appointing Beale despite being concerned about a growing backlash among supporters about luring him from QPR.

Rangers

Beale, 42, turned down the chance to manage Wolves earlier this season after the Premier League side sacked Bruno Lage.

McAvennie is baffled as to why the QPR boss would now join Rangers.

“Michael Beale, it’s a strange one,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’m going to be honest, why would you go to Wolves and say about how you are on a journey at QPR and go on about your team and how you don’t want to jump ship, how are you then going to go to Rangers after that?

“They haven’t got any money. Beale made a big song and dance about staying and now it looks like he might be going. Why would you not want to manage in the Premier League?

I just don’t get it. I understand Rangers are a big club but this is the Premier League, everyone wants to manage or play there.

“He is on a bad run of form at QPR, they aren’t doing too well. Sometimes good coaches don’t make good managers and he’s still new.

“Apparently the players like him and get on with him, when you’re a coach that’s fine. As a manager, it’s a different story.”

Rangers

Football Insider broke the news on 12 November that Beale was Rangers’ favoured candidate to replace Van Bronckhorst.

He is good friends with Ross Wilson and the pair struck up an excellent relationship during the Londoner’s three years as first-team coach at Rangers.

In other news, Klopp cited as new Rangers manager claim issued.
