McAvennie suggests ‘biggest problem’ at Celtic after what he has seen
Frank McAvennie has slammed Celtic for “not turning up” in the Champions League this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker lamented the side’s missed chances in the top European competition.
As revealed by UEFA (25 October), Ange Postecoglou’s men have converted just three of their 68 attempts in the competition and find themselves moored at the bottom of Group F with two points from five games.
The Celts ended their hopes of any European football in the new year with a 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday (25 October).
But McAvennie is hopeful the Hoops can step it up for future chances in Europe.
“The biggest problem at Celtic is that they have got great strikers but they are missing chances,” he told Football Insider.
“The whole team is missing chances. 61 shots on target, that beggars belief. I feel for Ange, you can see in his face he is hurting. You take ten per cent of them and we were through.

“Ange is there and he is honest. He will make changes, he will get more people in. It is alright doing it against Ross County and Motherwell and Hibs. The Champions League is where you want to play, you want to play the better teams.
“The Champions League is where anyone who has any ability wants to play. There is no point in getting there and not turning up.“
