McAvennie verdict on ‘Exceptional’ Dyche managing Celtic after intriguing reveal from his friend

Frank McAvennie would welcome the appointment of Sean Dyche at Celtic as he is an “exceptional manager”.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops and West Ham striker fears the 49-year-old would not want to take over at Parkhead because of the “toxic atmosphere”.

Speaking on Record Celtic podcast earlier this month, Bhoys hero Chris Sutton threw the Burnley manager’s name into the hat for the vacant position.

Paul Robinson told Football Insider that his former boss and friend would “love to manage Celtic”.

Dyche’s current deal at Turf Moor expires in the summer of 2022.

When asked for his thoughts on Dyche potentially succeeding Neil Lennon at Celtic Park, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think he would do well.

“I think Sean would do well wherever he goes because he is an exceptional manager.

“He gets labelled with playing a certain way but he does not have the budget of the other teams that are round and about him.

“I do not think he would come up to Scotland though, even though he’s at Burnley. He is in a great job on a great wage. I do not think he would come up.

“Does he want to put his family into this? Somebody will have told him about it. You have got to be a special breed to come up here and put your family through it. There’s a toxic atmosphere at the moment.”

In other news, McAvennie claims Celtic would be lucky to get £15million for Edouard this summer as Kennedy speaks out.
