McLeish expects Rangers to sell ‘mistake’ Simpson in January after Goldson report
Alex McLeish claims Jack Simpson can leave Rangers in January after an update on Connor Goldson’s future.
The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has been left disappointed with the defender’s time at Ibrox.
Simpson, 25, has only made four appearances for Rangers this season.

The defender sits at the back of the pack when it comes to Giovanni van Bronckhorst central defensive options.
The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell (23 December) has admitted he doesn’t see “any possibility” of Connor Goldson leaving Ibrox in January, further limiting a chance for Simpson to get more game time.
McLeish insists he was never convinced by Simpson after he joined Rangers in January 2021.
“When Simpson came in at the age of 24, it was a strange move,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild
“He wasn’t an established player at Bournemouth. He wasn’t at the peak of his powers or anything.
“I felt it would be tough for him because he didn’t play a lot of games for Bournemouth.
“I must admit, I was hoping he would be a late developer. We haven’t really seen anything from him.
“Rangers’ recruitment has been really good over the last few years but everyone makes mistakes.
“Unfortunately Simpson’s move hasn’t worked out and if Goldson is staying, I think that means he can go in January.”

Simpson made seven appearances for the Light Blues after joining last season.
He initially joined a pre-contract before Rangers paid a small fee to make the move happen six months early.
