McLeish makes ‘amazing’ Rangers transfer claim after £9m Patterson bid from Everton
Alex McLeish has tipped Rangers to sanction a “big player” exit deal during the January transfer window.
The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted it was “amazing” the Light Blues have not cashed in on any of their top stars in recent years – but suggested Nathan Patterson could go in a money-spinning deal.
As reported by the Guardian last week (21 December), Everton are expected to reignite a move for the 20-year-old after failing with a £9million bid move this summer.

The Toffees are in the market for a right-back and could launch a third bid for Patterson next month.
McLeish suggested Everton would have to splash out a “very strong fee” with add-ons and sell-on fees to prise him from Ibrox.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s amazing that Rangers haven’t done a big player deal, a player deal of a big proportion for a couple of years.
“I mean, we talk about it but nobody’s went. However, there have been a lot coming in.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if something happens in that respect.
“For Patterson, it’s his potential. We have seen the quality he has shown but how far can he go?
“The thought that I would have, in terms of somebody buying him, would be that initially, it would be a very strong fee.
“Then there would be add-ons and if he moves on, there would be a percentage of that. You’ve got to put a good deal down on the paper.”

Rangers’ only sales this summer were George Edmundson and Jordan Jones.
However, they only splashed out a transfer fee on Juninho Bacuna’s signing, with John Lundstram and Fashion Sakala joining on free transfers.
