McLeish questions Ange Postecoglou after ‘surprise’ Celtic transfer news

Alex McLeish has questioned Ange Postecoglou after Celtic announced the signing of Moritz Jenz from Lorient.

The former Rangers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the arrival of the centre-back is a “surprise”.

Celtic announced the double signing of Jenz, 23, and Aaron Mooy, 31, on Tuesday (19 July).

Jenz joins the Hoops on loan from Lorient after only joining the French side on a five-year deal in the summer of 2021.

Earlier this month (8 July), Postecoglou was quoted by the Daily Record as saying Christoffer Jullien’s future with the club is uncertain.

McLeish claims Jenz may have been signed to replace Jullien but questioned Postecoglou’s role in the transfer.

“He’s a good age, normally you would think players of that age will be establishing themselves in the first team,” McLeish told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“The fact Celtic have brought him on loan is maybe a bit of a surprise. You expect him to make an instant impact.

“It could be that Jullien may not be back to the level that Celtic expect. Jenz is obviously up and running in France.

“I’m not sure how much Ange Postecoglou knows about the French league. This was probably a recommendation by one of the scouts.”

Jullien’s current contract with the Hoops expires in the summer of 2023.

He only made one appearance for the club during the 2021-22 season after almost a year on the sidelines.
