McLeish: Rangers to announce ‘surprise’ signing next week
Rangers will be busy in the transfer window before next week’s deadline.
That’s according to former Gers boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Gers qualified for the Champions League group stage.
As quoted by the Scottish Daily Express (24 August), Van Bronckhorst insisted he is thinking about “competing with the best teams in Europe” and hinted “anything can happen” in the final days of the window.
Football Scotland reported (14 July) that clubs who reach the Champions League group stage will earn a guaranteed £40million.
The Gers have already been busy this summer, signing Ben Davies, Ridvan Yilmaz, Rabbi Matanod, Tom Lawrence, Antonio Colak, John Souttar and Malik Tillman on loan from Bayern Munich.
McLeish insists Giovanni van Bronckhorst is happy with his squad but did not rule out a “surprise” signing.
“It’s possible,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“I have a feeling that they have their squad now and they are going to go with that. You never know, there could be a surprise around the corner.
“But, by and large, they are covered in most of the positions now. They have made some great additions this summer.
“The confidence you get from something like that [beating PSV], is magnificent and enormous. It will reinforce the players’ beliefs tenfold.”

Alfredo Morelos’ future remains up in the air after he was dropped from the squad for Wednesday’s (24 August) win over PSV.
He has scored once for the club this season.
