McLeish so impressed by ‘phenomenal’ Ancelotti plans at Everton after Sky update

Alex McLeish has urged Everton to give the “phenomenal” Carlo Ancelotti their unwavering support in order to help grow as a club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers boss insisted backing the Italian is the best thing the Toffees could do, regardless of results.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ancelotti revealed he wants to be in charge when the club leave Goodison Park for their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

The Toffees’ new ground is set to be completed for the start of the 2024/25 season, with the Italian’s current contract set to expire the same year.

Everton are currently pushing for a top-six finish this term and are also in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

McLeish admitted while poor results could cast doubt over Ancelotti’s future, the Toffees board should keep faith.

McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “He just seems so cool, doesn’t he? He’s just got that kind of manner.

“I did go against him a couple of times when he was Chelsea. He’s a very nice man – I met him in a restaurant a couple of times too.

“He’s also a phenomenal coach, a ruthless footballer and he’s turned out to be a terrific coach as well with great longevity.

“You know how football can change at the drop of the hat. If it’s four or five defeats or something like that, then it changes.

“However, there’s nothing like the feeling that you get when the club say they want to keep you.

“When they really believe in you, they trust you and they want to give you support in terms of improving the team. That is just a phenomenal feeling for a coach.”
