McManus: Giorgos Giakoumakis’ to leave Celtic in next 24 hours after ‘telling’ development
Giorgos Giakoumakis will be sold by Celtic before the January transfer window closes.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops hitman’s future.
According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph (16 January), the Celts have accepted an offer from Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds for the 28-year-old.
The initial fee is believed to be £3m and Giakoumakis is believed to be weighing his options amid strong interest from Atlanta United.
On Wednesday (25 January) Celtic announced the signing of South Korean international Hyeongyu Oh.
Now he has arrived, McManus claims Giakoumakis can leave.
“I don’t think Celtic are going to go with three main strikers now, I think they will have Kyogo and Oh,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“That will be the two. Oh coming in is telling, for me. Celtic have agreed a fee with a lot of the clubs who want Giakoumakis, I now think it is up to his representatives to get the best deal for him financially.
“He has been linked with teams in Japan, Italy, Germany. He will be trying to play them off against each other to get the best deal possible.
“He’s 28 and he came from a small club in Holland so he won’t have been on a load of money at Celtic. I think he is just after the money now.

“I don’t think there is any way he stays at Celtic now. He scored some good goals and played a role but clearly, Ange thinks he can get an upgrade.
“I think we will see something happen in the next day or so.“
