McManus issues ‘joke’ verdict as Celtic sent warning over Josip Juranovic sale

Celtic earned as much money as they could have from the sale of Josip Juranovic.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s exit.

Juranovic, 25, joined Union Berlin in a deal Sky Sports claim to be worth up to £10million.

The defender was linked to several clubs throughout January before finally selling his move to the Bundesliga.

McManus insists the Hoops were never going to get more than £10million for the right-back.

“First and foremost, I don think he is a really good player,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“I didn’t buy the whole £20million thing, I never thought anyone would pay that. He has a good World Cup, that’s it.

“That being said, I do think £6million or £7million is a bit low. £10million or around that fee is a more suitable fee. In my mind, that’s what Celtic deserved but maybe they could have got a bit more.

“If you get more than that, great, it’s a bonus. He had a fantastic World Cup and he’s a good age. There were rumours about him going to the Premier League, is he good enough?

“I was never having the links with Chelsea, that was a bridge too far, for me. Celtic have signed Johnston and it looks like he is going to play.

“The £20million bids stuff, that was a joke, surely? He was never ever going to go for that much money.

“So I don’t think there’s was a world in which Juranovic would have stayed. Celtic were just hoping for the biggest fee. Roma were linked to him.

“Maybe they could have paid a bigger fee but it never sounded like they were properly interested.”
