Medical booked: Burnley finalise £12m Weghorst signing after terms agreed – Sources

Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst is due for a medical at Burnley after a £12million deal was agreed between the two clubs, Football Insider understands.

The Clarets have identified the 29-year-old as the perfect replacement for Chris Wood, who joined Newcastle United earlier this month.

A Burnley source has told Football Insider that Weghorst has agreed personal terms and will undergo a medical before completing a switch to Turf Moor.

The move will see the Dutch striker end his three-and-a-half year spell at Wolfsburg.

He has 18 months remaining on his contract in Germany.

Weghorst joined Wolfsburg from AZ Alkmaar in July 2018 in a £9.5million deal.

He has contributed 70 goals and 22 assists in 144 total appearances for the Bundesliga side.

Seven of those goals have come in 24 appearance this season.

The 6 foot 5 inch striker has also been capped 12 times by Netherlands and has scored twice.

Weghorst is set to become Burnley’s sixth most expensive signing ever.

Sean Dyche is desperate to add more firepower to his squad before Monday’s deadline having lost star striker Chris Wood to relegation rivals Newcastle earlier in the window.

Burnley currently only have one senior centre-forward available in Jay Rodriguez.

Ashley Barnes and Matej Vydra are both sidelined through injury.

Sean Dyche’s side have struggled for goals this season – only Norwich City have scored less.

The 20th-placed side hope Weghorst can score the goals to lift them to safety.

In other news, it can be revealed that West Ham have made contact over signing a Brighton star ahead of Monday’s deadline.
