Medical booked: Sunderland forward Jewison Bennette jets out to join new club – sources
Sunderland winger Jewison Bennette has agreed to join Greek club Aris on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign, sources have told Football Insider.
Bennette, 19, is set to fly out to Greece this weekend to undergo a medical and seal his move to the Thessaloniki-based club.
The Costa Rica international has found himself down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light this season.
He has made just two senior appearances in the 2023-24 season so far and had therefore been keen on a move away in search of regular first-team action.
The teenager has made five further appearances for Sunderland’s Under-21 side in Premier League 2 competition, notching one goal and two assists.
Bennette had also been linked with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian, but it is Aris who have won the race to take him on loan for the rest of the season.
The winger joined Sunderland from Costa Rican side Herediano in 2022 and has made 20 senior appearances for the Black Cats, notching two goals and two assists.
He is under contract at the Stadium of Light until June 2026 – with the Wearside club also holding the option to extend that deal a further 12 months.

Bennette, 19, is a fully-fledged Costa Rica international and has scored two goals in 13 caps for his country since making his debut in August 2021.
Aris sit fifth in Greece’s top flight this term, while Sunderland sit 10th under new boss Michael Beale – who has won just two of a possible six Championship games since taking the job on 18 December.
