Medical expert suggests ‘sinister’ Gianluca Scamacca blow as West Ham face anxious wait
West Ham have to wait for more test results and any reaction to rehabilitation before ruling out a major injury to Gianluca Scamacca.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
Scamacca was absent from West Ham’s 1-0 win over Brentford in the FA Cup this week after suffering a knee injury against Leeds United.

David Moyes had high hopes after the match that Scamacca’s setback was “not too bad”, but added that the Italian was sent for a scan to add to his diagnosis.
With a crucial Premier League clash against fellow strugglers Wolves coming up on Saturday afternoon, West Ham now face an anxious wait to discover the severity of the injury.
Dinnery believes the Hammers cannot 100 per cent rule out a “sinister” injury to the 24-year-old striker.
“Moyes spoke about the setback and ultimately it was a challenge that opened up Scamacca’s knee,” Dinnery told Football Insider.
“It’s not something that was initially considered to be major and West Ham hoped his absence against Brentford was more of a precautionary measure.
“But it all depends on how he responds to treatment and rehabilitation in the build-up to the Wolves match.
“At the moment they can’t rule out the injury being more serious or sinister than initially thought.
“As tests continue, you can never be 100 per cent sure.

“It will be a concern because there’s a lot of pressure on West Ham this season, and particularly the amount of goals being scored is an area that needs addressing.
“So there’s a lot of pressure on getting Scamacca fit and firing the Hammers out of trouble.”
