Medical insider: ‘Concerned’ Chelsea to offer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ‘psychological support’

Chelsea will offer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang “psychological support” following the violent burglary prior to his move from Barcelona.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Aubameyang, who said he was relishing the opportunity to work under now-sacked manager Thomas Tuchel, was announced as a Chelsea player on deadline day.

As relayed by the Daily Mail last Wednesday (31 August), the 33-year-old striker suffered a broken jaw in an armed robbery at his house in Spain just days before the move.

Dinnery suggests that his new club will give the Gabon international specialist support if he feels he needs it.

He will certainly be offered psychological support and the opportunity to speak to somebody,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Tim Harkness, who is head of sports science and psychology at Chelsea, has been there for 13 years and is highly respected.

“The move probably came at a good time for him. He knows London from his time at Arsenal. It is an opportunity to move away.

“He will be offered support by the club but we also see players go through trusted contacts in their own network, clinicians or medical advisers that they have been with for a long time.

“The club will be concerned but it all comes down to how Aubameyang wants to handle it.”
