Medical insider issues ‘massive’ Josh Dasilva injury claim after Brentford development

Josh Dasilva could now “massively kick on” and fulfil his lofty potential at Brentford after reaching pre-injury levels of fitness and sharpness.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Dasilva came off the bench for Brentford during their 2-2 opening day draw against Leicester (7 August) to score the equaliser four minutes from time.

Speaking post-match and quoted by The Athletic, Bees boss Thomas Frank insisted the goal was “very emotional” after the midfielder’s 18-month fitness battle.

The Dane claimed Dasilva was “back to the level we know he is at”.

The former Arsenal youngster has struggled with a serious hip and hamstring injury in the last 18 months – managing just two starts since March 2021.

Dinnery insisted Dasilva, who notched 16 goals and nine assists in 89 Championship games for the Bees, is now in the right window after his initial return last term.

“He’s held in really high regard by Thomas Frank and Brentford,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He returned to the first-team squad in February earlier this year, and that three-month spell was an opportunity to play himself back into the squad.

“It was important for him to get those minutes and get a feel for the Premier League – since his last involvement for Brentford was in the second tier.

“Now we know with players who are returning from long-term injuries – it’s not the first three months you would expect players to return to pre-injury levels.

“It’s the four or five months, and beyond that. He’s had a good off-season, good pre-season – and this is where we could see him massively kicking on.

“Hopefully he will fulfil that potential that Frank has been talking about.”
