Medical Insider: Kalvin Phillips may be out for months at Man City as ‘huge’ footage emerges

Kalvin Phillips may not play for Man City until after the World Cup.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

As relayed in footage by Sky Sports earlier this week (24 October), Phillips was shown back in individual training at Man City’s Etihad Campus.

The 26-year-old also travelled with the squad for their 0-0 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday (25 October) despite not being fit enough to be named on the bench.

He has not featured for Man City since the reverse fixture earlier this season (14 September) after suffering a shoulder injury during a mid-season friendly with Barcelona.

“He maybe will be able to be involved in elements of team training but it will be a gradual integration and there will be no full contact,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“It’s still going to be a concern regarding his availability for the World Cup, more due to a lack of sharpness and first-team football.

“Even when fully fit and ready, is he going to displace Rodri? Is he going to get enough minutes in those legs to convince Gareth Southgate he’s deserving of a place in that squad? Probably not. If he is included, it will be a huge gamble.

“It’s a good indication that he is progressing really well, he’s stepping up his recovery.

“One of the most difficult things, when you are recovering, is feeling like you are still part of the group. Just by travelling, you retain that connection and you are sharing those experiences.

“When you transition from the treatment room to the pitch, it’s a lot more seamless. It keeps that hunger and motivation going because it can be a lonely road.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has revealed that Man City supporters have the “key” as the details of a “destructive” plot emerge.
