Medical insider: Newcastle United may have ‘overloaded’ Allan Saint-Maximin and teammate after latest
Newcastle United risk further “soft tissue injuries” to Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak if either player is “overloaded.”
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Saint-Maximin and Isak have missed the majority of the 2022-23 campaign with both players suffering set backs on their respective hamstring and thigh injuries.

As quoted by The Athletic (18 October), Eddie Howe admitted the club “have to be very careful with the timescales” of the forwards.
Saint-Maximin made his return from injury in Newcastle’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday (29 October).
Isak will not be fit for action until after next month’s World Cup.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Dinnery said: “When we talk about soft tissue injuries, there is often an acceptance that things could have been done a little bit better.
“Perhaps a mistake was made along the way. Maybe the player was overloaded or a risk was taken when it should not have been.

“It is about understanding the risks with the game and the environment. It is about understanding the healing process and looking to optimise it. Mitigating the risks reduces the chance of players suffering setbacks.
“Unfortunately, injuries still occur no matter how much research or technology is in place. Medical departments phase unjust flack when players get injured. They should be commended for trying to keep players on the pitch when there’s less rest, fixture congestion and bigger sprint distances.”
In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Newcastle United could be set for a £225million transfer boost as summer deal on cards.
