Medical insider reveals Oliver Skipp fears after ‘freak’ Tottenham training injury

Oliver Skipp’s “freak training ground incident” at Tottenham is “nothing to be overly concerned about” despite his long-term injury layoff last term.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

According to football.london (4 August), Skipp, 21, will miss the “first few games” of the 2022-23 season after suffering a hairline heel fracture during a training ground accident.

The report claims the midfielder was among the fittest stars at Tottenham during pre-season – having only recently returned from a long-term layoff.

Skipp, who penned a fresh five-year contract in April, was ruled out of the second half of the 2021-22 season following a frustrating pelvic injury.

Dinnery backed the England Under-21 star to return to action before the end of August.

“Last season he had that pelvic issue, which was corrected through surgery in America.

“That’s all been and gone, and he’s been absolutely fine since. Even prior to that, Skipp is a player who has had a very good injury record.

“People seem to be clouded by that injury which happened in the second half of last season. This heel injury was a freak training ground incident.

“I understand he had a deep laceration caused by a fellow player, which required some stitches – but also caused some secondary damage on the bone as well.

“We’re expecting a return before the end of the month with really good outcomes.

It’s certainly nothing to be overly concerned about.”
