Medical insider: Tottenham facing ‘massive’ injury risk after BBC’s reveal

Tottenham are set for a “massive” scheduling issue at the end of the season.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Tottenham already have a packed schedule with Champions League and domestic games and their game with Man City scheduled for 10 September was postponed due to the death of the queen.

The BBC reported on Wednesday (12 October) that King Charles III’s coronation will take place on 6 May 2023.

Spurs are due to host Crystal Palace that day but the game is under threat of being rescheduled due to police and security demands.

Asked whether further fixture pile up could cause an issue, Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley: “Yes, massively.

“We’re coming out of a shortened pre-season into a season with a winter World Cup in Qatar shoe-horned in.

“It’s heavily disrupted, not just this season but for nearly three years now. This is a culmination of all that put together.

“The number of games across a season is not necessarily an issue but the period of recovery time between matches, that intensity is the issue.

“A good analogy for fatigue is to imagine it as a bucket under a dripping tap. For the most part, you’re absolutely fine but once that water reaches a level, there will become a point where it comes to overflow.

“That’s what fatigue is. Fatigue is that red flag for the possibility of picking up soft tissue and muscle injuries.

“It almost becomes a vicious circle. You’re having to risk players because squads are becoming stretched. It’s a difficult cycle to get out of.

“You’re talking about the end of a season where some of these clubs will be pushing for European places and may be deeply involved in European competitions as well. There are lots of things going on there.”

In other news, Tottenham have set their sights on signing a Champions League left-footer and £44million will seal the deal.
