Medical underway: Club finalise signing of Sunderland star Jewison Bennette after deal agreed – sources
Sunderland forward Jewison Bennette is undergoing a medical in Greece on Monday morning (29 January) as he finalises a move to Aris, sources have told Football Insider.
The 19-year-old has jetted out to link up with the Thessaloniki-based club and put the finishing touches on a move to the Greek top flight.
Bennnette will join Aris on an initial loan deal, with Football Insider revealing on Saturday (27 January) that he had agreed a temporary move away from Sunderland.
The Costa Rica international had found himself down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light this season.
He had made just two senior appearances in the 2023-24 season so far and was therefore keen to move away in search of regular first-team action.
Bennette made five further appearances for Sunderland’s Under-21 side in Premier League 2 competition this term, notching one goal and two assists.
He joined the Wearside club from Costa Rican side Herediano in 2022 and has made 20 senior appearances for the Black Cats, notching two goals and two assists.
The winger is under contract at the Stadium of Light until June 2026 – with the club holding the option to extend that deal by a further year.

Bennette is already a fully-fledged Costa Rica international and has scored two goals in 13 total caps for his country.
Aris sit fifth in Greece’s top flight this term while Michael Beale’s side are seventh in the Championship after he led his new side to a 3-1 win at home against Stoke on Saturday (27 January).
