Michael Beale ‘very close’ to Rangers sack – pundit

Rangers boss Michael Beale should have been sacked by now.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie said there is “clearly a problem” at Ibrox and acknowledged how “massive” Saturday’s game against St Johnstone is.

Beale has been under increasing pressure from fans following a calamitous week that saw them exit the Champions League followed by an Old Firm defeat to Celtic.

Last week (8 September), Football Insider revealed that the Gers were interested in Graham Potter and had sounded him out as a potential replacement for the current manager.

The Ibrox board have been unconvinced by Beale since his appointment in November as have been eyeing up candidates should they choose to part ways.

But, Football Insider exclusively revealed on Thursday (14 September) that top candidate Potter is holding out for an offer from a Champions League level club.

McAvennie is surprised Beale has lasted the international break.

I thought he would have been gone by now,” he told Football Insider.

He has got a massive game this week. There is clearly a problem because he has been very quiet this week but he will be back this weekend and is going to keep going.

He is very close to the point of no return with the fans. It will be a long drive back from Perth if they do not get a result but I believe they will.

Rangers

The Gers return to league action on Saturday with a trip to St Johnstone.

Beale’s side are currently fourth in the Premiership with six points from four games.
