Michael Carrick can already save Man United from financial disaster amid Casemiro reveal

Michael Carrick can already save Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe millions of pounds after the latest update on Casemiro this season.

Man United parted ways with Ruben Amorim following the head coach’s fallout with Jason Wilcox, moving quickly to appoint Carrick until the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

With multiple big names on the market, Man United have been told to get Xabi Alonso following his exit from Real Madrid, putting aside his allegiances to Liverpool in the process.

For now, though, the former Middlesbrough boss is in charge, and he could have a major impact behind the scenes despite only being appointed on an interim basis at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick cannot trigger Casemiro clause

He will have full reign over the starting lineup, and with new information coming to light, he cannot continue to start Casemiro in the centre of midfield.

According to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell (16 January), should the Brazilian start every other Premier League game from now until the end of the season, he will have a one-year extension added.

It is believed that the target is 35 matches, which is massively unlikely at this stage, but it is something that could go under the radar right until the final stages of the season.

Given that Casemiro is believed to be one of the highest-paid, if not the highest, players at Old Trafford, it would be a huge blow were he to stay on the books for another season amid several financial issues.

Casemiro’s wages are just eye-watering

The current finances under Ratcliffe are no secret, with fans wanting Ineos gone, and keeping Casemiro beyond his normal contract length would only add to the problems right now.

Hundreds of staff have been made redundant in the last few months, with lunches also being cancelled, going to show just how dire the situation is at Old Trafford.

While getting rid of Casemiro’s wages will not make a massive difference, in the short-term, it will provide some financial relief, which is much-needed for the owners right now.

Despite only being at the helm until the end of the season, Carrick actually has some important decisions to make, and not starting one of the team’s biggest names is one of them.
