Michail Antonio set for new West Ham role after source’s transfer reveal – pundit

Michail Antonio could be deployed as a winger if West Ham complete the signing of Armando Broja this summer, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender insisted Broja would not be the number one striker if he moved to the London Stadium.

A West Ham source told Football Insider earlier this week (4 June) that they have registered their interest in the 20-year-old as they look to recruit a new frontline forward.

Football Insider first revealed the Hammers’ interest in the Chelsea forward earlier this year (24 January) when they were hoping to tempt from his prolific loan spell at Southampton.

West Ham are in desperate need of a new centre-forward with Antonio their only senior striker since Sebastien Haller moved to Ajax in January 2021.

“That’s the sort of signing where you can use the two,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s still a young player, he will still have ups and downs within that. That’s someone who can push Antonio.

“One can play wide, one can play through the middle. It gives you options, there’s no reason why the two can’t play together.

“He’s a young exciting player. That would be a very, very good signing, I would say.”

Broja scored nine times in 38 games across all competitions in his season-long spell at Southampton.

The Albania international has four years left on his Chelsea contract after penning a new long-term deal last summer (2021).

In other news, West Ham have made a move to sign an Everton star with 31 Premier League starts last season.
