‘Might see himself at Spurs’ – Exclusive: Rangers man touted for move after Ibrox board shift

Darren Bent has urged Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos to be patient when it comes to making a decision on a potential transfer away from Ibrox.

The former Tottenham and England forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Jason Jones, believes the Colombian hitman should not be forced into moving clubs if it is not right for him.

As detailed exclusively by Football Insider, the Rangers board are set to cut their asking price for the 23-year-old this summer due to the financial impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The likes of Tottenham and Inter Milan were both keen on the Rangers star during the January transfer window, as revealed by Football Insider, although Colombian radio station Antena 2 claim French side Saint Etienne are planning to make a move this summer.

Bent insists that if Morelos believes he is worthy of a move to a European heavyweight, he should wait at Ibrox rather than jumping ship at the first opportunity.

“He’s a good player, I think he’ll be alright and it’s patience for him over a move – what he doesn’t want to do is take something for the sake of it,” Bent told Football Insider.

“He hasn’t been great recently but at the same you need to just stay with it. He’s a fiery character, the Rangers fans love him and he has, at times, been very, very good for them.

“When I say it’s about timing, he might see himself at Spurs and why shouldn’t he? He might think his ability, the way he plays, is good enough for a team like Spurs which is fair enough.

“He doesn’t need to jump to anything – he can just wait and wait. He’s got time on his hands and if he’s patient he might just end up at one of those clubs. Right now he needs to keep his head down and keep working hard.”

Rangers attacker Alfredo Morelos fumes

Morelos has 29 goals across all competitions this season, although only one of those has come since Scotland’s winter break.

He has scored a total of 77 times in 137 appearances since arriving in Scotland.
