Miguel Almiron ‘to be great addition to our club’ after Newcastle exit reveal

Miguel Almiron would be an excellent signing for Charlotte FC amid links with the Newcastle United winger, the MLS club’s assistant coach Christian Fuchs has admitted.

Football Insider revealed last week (27 December) that the Magpies are planning to sell the winger in the January transfer window as they look to with PSR issues amid interest from Charlotte FC.

Now Fuchs, who has held the role of assistant coach with the MLS side for the past two years, has commented on those links with the Paraguay international.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Tuesday (31 December) about his side’s links with the Newcastle man, the former Leicester City Premier League title winner said (1:34pm): “He is a great player, right.

“He is a great but I don’t really want to talk about it because he has not been signed yet and there’s always a lot of names that are being associated with Charlotte FC.

“All I know is that once it’s signed then obviously Almiron will be a great addition to our club and I would really look forward to him joining us and playing for us.

“We are a very ambitious club coming up into our fourth year, it has been a steady progression within the club, within the MLS and we’re looking forward to get going again we’re coming back on January 12th going into pre-season and it’s going to be a great season ahead.”

Football Insider Opinion

As most within football are, Fuchs understandably seemed keen not to give too much away when it comes to these links with Almiron given a deal is not yet official.

Regardless of that though, the way he spoke did seem to indicate that he is confident that a deal to bring the Paraguay international to the club from Newcastle will get done.

While opportunities have been more limited for him this season, the winger has enjoyed some excellent spells in the Premier League in the past.

As a result he is a player who may still be able to thrive in America, and Almiron himself will no doubt relish the chance to play regularly again.

Newcastle meanwhile look as though they will have to sell to buy in the January transfer window amid those PSR issues, which could be important as they aim to build on a positive first-half of the season.

With that in mind there is a good chance that it will be more than just Fuchs who is relishing a move to Charlotte FC for the Magpies winger.
