‘Never quite worked’ – Rangers player speaks out after slanging match between Caixinha and O’Halloran
By Harry Sykes
Kenny Miller is delighted that Rangers teammate Michael O’Halloran is ripping it up while on loan at St Johnstone.
But the veteran striker, 37, insisted that it did not work out for winger O’Halloran at Ibrox and there will be no turning back from manager Pedro Caixinha.
O’Halloran, who is on a half season loan at St Johnstone, was frozen out by Caixinha and told he wouldn’t play while he was still in charge at Ibrox.
But he has hit back as the public slanging match intensified between the pair by claiming the Portugese lacks communication skills and his training sessions were “undemanding”.
Miller would not be drawn on the row between the pair but is not surprised that O’Halloran is thriving again at a club where he is back for a second spell.
“The manager has made his decision, which he has with a number of players not just Michael,” said Miller, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“Listen, it’s good to see Michael doing well back at St Johnstone, it never quite worked for him the 18 months he was here.
“But he’s comfortable at that place, they know him well, he knows the place well and he’s started the season great.
“So it’s always nice to see a team-mate when they’ve got a loan deal doing well as Joe Dodoo did last week scoring for Charlton.
“So listen, we’ve got players out on loan, they’re out on loan for a reason, so it’s important that they continue to play and play well.”
O’Halloran returned to McDiarmid Park on loan over the summer and has scored four goals in four league games for Tommy Wright’s side to help the Saints into third place and earn the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award for August.
At Rangers, he made 37 appearances, scoring three times, following his £450,000 arrival in January 2016.
The forward found himself in trouble with the club after failing to show up at an Under-20s match against Heart’s at Stirling Albion’s Forthbank Stadium in April.
Caixinha banished O’Halloran to train away from the squad for a number of weeks as punishment before looking to move him on over the summer.
In other Rangers news, talks are underway as the club are in negotiations to secure an agreement with central American outfit.
