‘I’ll look after myself’ – Big-name Rangers player opens door to summer exit after Allen snub

By Richard Parks

Kenny Miller has opened the door to quitting Rangers this summer after a contract snub from the club’s hierarchy.

The 38-year-old attacker, who is out of contract in June, has revealed that he has not been approached about a new deal but is keen to continue his playing career.

Miller marked his return to the starting line-up with the opener in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Dundee, in what was his first start in four months.

“Nothing has been discussed regarding my future,” Miller said, as quoted by the BBC Sport website.

“Who knows what will happen at the club in the summer, so I’ll look after myself because I want to continue playing. I’ll stay focused on that.”

Miller, who first joined the Light Blues as a 20-year-old and began his third spell at Ibrox in 2014, has scored 102 goals in 262 appearances for Rangers.

He has mainly been on the fringes this season, scoring five goals and supplying five assists from 23 matches in all competitions.

Football Insider verdict:

Miller has been one of Rangers’ outstanding players of what has been the most miserable period in the club’s history but the writing has been on the wall for him for some time. Since suffering an achilles injury in December, the front man has made just two substitute appearances as he finds his way to the first team blocked not only by Alfredo Morelos and Jason Cummings, but also Josh Windass. The Englishman has proved more effective than Miller in a second striker role, and it is now his time. Should Windass be fit, he must return to the starting XI against Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final next weekend. Miller has been a great servant and can leave Ibrox with his head held high, but his snub from contract negotiator Mark Allen is not a surprise. He doesn’t really deserve an extension.
