Mills can’t believe what Bowen’s done at West Ham after ‘devastating’ Instagram reveal

Jarrod Bowen’s last-minute miss as West Ham lost 3-2 to Leeds United yesterday was “one of the worst of the season”, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds and England full-back admitted he could not work out why Bowen opted to chest it rather than nod it in with his head.

In the dying stages at the London Stadium, a cross was whipped across the Leeds United six-yard box with Illan Meslier stranded.

Bowen leapt to try and guide it goalwards but the ball ballooned over the bar and West Ham were not able to rescue a point.

The 25-year-old took to Instagram after the game to apologise for the miss as he admitted he was “devastated”.

“I can’t work out why he chested it,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If he was right on the line then it may just hit you but he had time to adjust, he almost leaned back to chest it. He should score, simple as that.

“It has to go down as one of the worst of the season. Why he decided to chest it only he will know.

“If he gets his head on it, because his head is above the ball, it’s in. It cannot go downwards, it can only go up.

“It was a strange decision.”

Despite the miss, Bowen still has five goals and five assists in his last nine games across all competitions.

His tally for the season is now nine goals and 10 assists in 31 appearances.
