Mills cites Henry as he tips Wolves teen to explode next season

Danny Mills has claimed Fabio Silva could explode at Wolves next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England and Manchester City defender cited Thierry Henry as he insisted foreign players do not always immediately settle in England.

Wolves signed Silva from Porto for a reported club-record £35million fee last summer but he scored just one non-penalty goal in his first 23 Premier League appearances.

However, since then the 18-year-old has three goal contributions in his last five league games.

“There’s a player in there, they spent a lot of money on him,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“We’ve seen it before, Thierry Henry took a while to settle in in this country. I’m not saying he’s going to go on and be that good but you have to be a little bit patient with players at times.

“Especially in the current climate of a pandemic and everything else that’s going on. It’s even harder, much harder to make that move and deal with those situations.

“All the players that have moved club and country need another six months or a full season to really start to settle in.

“We’re always going on about players not immersing themselves in the culture. ‘They don’t get it. They don’t understand the fans and what’s expected.’ They have had no opportunity to do that in any way shape or form.

“They’ve been stuck in a hotel or a rented house so they’re not getting the full life experience.

“You need to cut them a little bit of slack and see what happens in the first six months of next season.”

In other news, Wolves are confident of signing a Tottenham star with a swap deal being discussed.
