Mills hails ‘brilliant’ Cash and Aston Villa teammate as video emerges
Danny Mills has praised Aston Villa duo Matt Targett and Matty Cash after they encouraged people to get their booster jab.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender insisted Premier League players are influential and their words will make a difference.
The Premier League posted a video to Twitter yesterday (29 December) of the pair encouraging viewers to get their booster jabs to protect against the surge in covid.
Despite the impact covid is having on football with postponements on the rise there have been few interventions from players encouraging fans to get vaccinated.
Aston Villa had their scheduled game with Leeds United for the 28 December postponed after an outbreak in the Whites squad.
They were also without manager Steven Gerrard for their 3-1 loss to Chelsea on Boxing Day after he tested positive for the virus.
“Obviously it’s a personal choice, first and foremost,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“We have to respect that either way, as long as those decisions are made informed and for the right reasons.
“From my perspective, it’s just a case of following the government guidelines and doing what they say. I’ve had the booster jab and all my family have just because of the literature I’ve read.

“Players are influential, we know that. Especially in that 20-30 age group where the uptake hasn’t been as great as other age groups.
“If they want to do that then brilliant, I’m all for that. But obviously, you cannot force anybody to do that.”
