Mills hails Carroll after ‘fantastic’ confirmed West Brom news today

Danny Mills has claimed Andy Carroll would be a “fantastic asset” for West Brom.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender insisted Carroll is a “dangerman” who would suit West Brom’s way of playing perfectly.

As relayed by BBC Radio West Midlands today (28 January), Valerien Ismael has confirmed the former England striker has passed a medical with the Baggies.

He is a free agent after his short-term contract with Reading expired earlier this month.

Carroll scored twice and provided an assist in eight Championship games, including six starts for the Royals.

“West Brom are a very direct side,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“We saw how he played at Barnsley and what he’s now done with West Brom.

“If he’s going to stay fit until the end of the season then he’s a real dangerman.

“West Brom have just tailed off after a real good start to the season. It’s getting competitive at the top end of the Championship now. QPR are on a bit of a run, if Coventry win their games in hand they go into the play-offs.

“Two or three good results get you up to the top-three, two or three bad results and you could be down to ninth. It’s so tight in that division.

“If Andy Carrol’s fit and is going to be available between now and the end of the season he would be a fantastic asset.

“Especially with that West Brom team that would definitely play to his strengths.”

Carroll has 20 goals and 15 assists in the Championship across his time at Reading, Newcastle United and a loan at Preston North End.

The 33-year-old also has 54 Premier League goals to his name.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has revealed West Brom could spark an EFL law change as a £5million-plus ‘boost’ is on the line.
