Leeds United chiefs

Danny Mills has hailed Ezgjan Alioski as Leeds United line up new contract talks.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds defender claimed that the versatile midfielder, 28, is a key member of the squad who has been “fantastic” during his three years at Elland Road.

Football Insider revealed last month United are keen to keep hold of the Alioski and are planning talks over a new deal.

The Macedonia international has entered the final seven months of his current agreement, which is due to expire in June 2021, and could potentially sign a pre-contract with a foreign club from January.

Asked by Football Insider if Leeds should pull out all the stops to keep hold of Alioski, who can play at left-back as well as wide midfield, Mills said:

“Leeds United will want to keep all of their players right now. There was more activity in the transfer window than everybody expected but, even still, it is important to keep hold of your players.

“They should be rewarded for what they have done and it is a show of loyalty as well.

“Alioski is a valued member of the squad and with the games coming thick and fast it is going to be a squad game more than ever this season.

“Alioski has done fantastically at Leeds. He is a very good squad player who is happy to fill in wherever he is asked, whatever position.

“You just need to look at what Berardi did last season and a club always needs a player that has good attitude like that. A player that pushes others and brings competition for places.”

In other news, Leeds United are stepping up plans to open talks with “brilliant” 28-year-old.
