Costa ‘won’t play for Leeds again’ after source’s reveal – Mills

Helder Costa’s time at Leeds United has not been a success and the summer transfer window was the right time for him to leave.

That is the view of ex-Whites and England full-back Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Costa completed a loan move to Valencia.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the club do not expect the winger to turn out for Marcelo Bielsa’s side again.

He completed a season-long loan move to Valencia on deadline day and they have an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old still has three years left to run on his Leeds contract after he penned a four-year deal last summer.

“I guess Valencia do not have a guaranteed option or an obligatory option,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s done OK but you can’t look at it and say it has been a hugely successful time for him at Leeds United.

“On the basis of that, it works out for both. The club needed to move him on and he needed a new challenge. That’s what has happened.

“I would be very surprised, especially with the arrival of Dan James, if he was to come back and feature again for Leeds.”

Costa scored eight times and provided 11 assists in 71 games for Leeds across all competitions.

The one-cap Portugal international featured 22 times in the Premier League last season, including 13 starts.
